Remembering the Topaz Man

12 May

steve-sandalis    If you’ve been reading romances for about 20 years, you undoubtedly remember the gorgeous and oh-so-gentlemanly cover model, Steve Sandalis. That’s him there, on his knees before Me (dressed as one of my time-traveling heroines) at an RT Booklovers Convention. In my Pirates! blog last month, he was the hot hunk with the eye patch on my original “Stardust Dreams” cover.

Steve graced the covers of 6 of my Penguin Topaz books, but only on one did they graphically alter his image to make him a curly-haired blond to fit the story. That book was #4 of my futuristic Innerworld Affairs series. It was originally released in 1994 as “Stolen Dreams” but I’ve now updated and revised it to be released as an e-book with the new title, “FINDING TIME”. stold-cover

All the new covers will be ready shortly and I promise to share them as well as let everyone know when the series is available for download, but for now you can check out a teaser on my websiteFinding Time.

And, oh yeah, have a lovely Mother’s Day y’all!

May all your reads be Passionate,

Who’s My Creampuff?

26 Jan

Confession time: I love endearments and nicknames. I’ve always gone by a shortened version of my real name and I give endearments/nicknames to friends, family and enemies alike. I very rarely have a character that doesn’t end up with one.

But you have to be careful. While  I can get away with calling a friend Bunnymuffins (yes, you read that right) in real life, put it in a story and it’ll throw the reader out every time.  Sugar, baby, honey and sweetheart are all fine. Sugar Lips, not so much. And don’t even get me started on Candy Yams.

My brain conspires against me. It twitches and sprinkles in the endearments while my back is turned. Generally I have to edit most of these out, but I recently had a project where I could go nuts.

And I abused it with glee! Honeypie! Angelfritter! Pumpkin-puss!  There was no endearment too over the top to use and it felt so good. Of course, the whole story is over the top, so it works.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t looking forward to the next time I could do it again, Honeybritches. *sigh* But since the rest of my books are not humorous in nature, I’ve got to know, what’s your favorite endearment?

New Year, Same Old Me

12 Jan

For the first time in my life, I didn’t make any New Year’s Resolutions. Part of me is still insisting it’s not too late, but I’m trying a different approach this year.

Every year, I start the year with at least five — sometimes as many as fifteen resolutions and usually by March they’ve all fallen by the wayside. Doesn’t matter if it was getting to the gym three times a week , learning a new Spanish word every day or reading one non-fiction book a week. Crash and burn.

And then would come the mountains of guilt. Surrounded by the tundra of shame. All set on the plateau of Why-Do-I-Even-Bother.  It’s as ugly and as unproductive as it sounds.

I know that the biggest part of my failure was expecting a zero to six turn around with no more preparation than the turning of a calendar page. So after the lackluster year of 2012, I’m trying something different for 2013.

I’ll be working towards goals, instead of demanding instantaneous results. For the moment this is what I’m aiming for:

1. Eat More Vegetables. Fries are not veggies. Nuff said.

2. Sub at least four stories this year. One of which will be for a call (I love these but have never managed to finish a story in time).

3. Attempt to crack another publisher.

4. Get Beauty — the book that has owned half my soul for the last 3 years — out to readers. Even if it’s only beta readers.

5. Learn to say no to other writers. I know that writing is a solitary endeavor so I would commit to things when I had no desire or not enough time and then end up stressed.

And keep it pink and glittery…..because it is still me after all.

T.G.I.F./F.F. ( and Eye Candy, Too!)

6 Oct

Now that I have your attention…

Did ya miss me? LOL

Life intruded and my apologies for that. Mother nature also had to put her two cents in and trapped me in my house for four days with over three feet of water in my street.

Not fun, but not life threatening and really just more of a nuisance/inconvenience than anything else. Been doing some reading and some research and trying to get some writing done the process…

Notice I said, “trying”?

I’m having trouble with the rapidly (and rabidly) breeding plot bunnies that seem to be overwhelming me in recent weeks.

In an effort to tame the bunny horde, I’m going to be trying something a little different in the coming weeks.

I’m calling this little experiment T.G.I.F./F.F.Day.

In case you’re wondering that’s  NOT  “Thank God It’s Friday” with a stutter!

It stands for…

Thank God It’s Fan/Flash Fiction Day!

You see, in order to stop the madness, I had to start writing some of this stuff down just to get it out of my head so I could then focus on the manuscripts I need to get done.

So, I’ll be posting bits of stories (or links to them) and I’m inviting those of you who might also have similar bits out there in cyberspace to do the same by posting the appropriate links in the comment section of this blog.

You can also use the comment section to, well…comment on the stories/WIP and let me know if you’d like to see more.

Who knows…that might just help me decide what my next project will be!

I’m going to start this off with an Adult Fan Fic (not mine) that I mentioned in a blog I posted in July.

At the time it was posted as a “WIP” but it is now “Complete” so if you’d like a bit of “light reading”  :-)   here’s the link to “Broken Dreams” posted by “onecelestialbeing”.

In the meantime…Enjoy the delicious male hotness unabashedly displayed herein!

(You didn’t REALLY think I’d do a post without my usual eye-candy fix in it…DID YOU?!).

What can I say?

We ALL need a little inspiration to feed our muses and keep our plot bunnies happily humping away!

Enjoy!

Shannon

Damn! I DO love my job!

Well I just couldn’t decide. *grin*

Hope you have a great weekend.

Some cowboys to kick off the Weekend

18 May

This weekend is the long weekend in Canada and I always spend the May Long Weekend at the Rodeo, I figured I would share the wealth a little and post some cowboy eye candy for you. Enjoy.

Now that’s my kind of candy

6 Apr

With it being Easter weekend my kids are getting amped up for the candy so I thought the Easter bunny should grace the blog as well but with some grown up candy, yep you guessed it EYE CANDY. Yum. Since my new book Rode Hard released last Friday it seemed appropriate for the guys to be cowboys.

Blurb

Six weeks surrounded by hot, rugged cowboys doesn’t sound like hard work at all. In fact, writer Kat McCray is going to enjoy this assignment. One look at sexy ranch owner Justin Shaw and she knows exactly how she plans to spend her downtime. In his bed.

Justin works hard and has the body to prove it. And he plays even harder—him and his two best friends. He’s more than happy to help Kat explore her darkest fantasies…especially the ones that involve all four of them.

Kat’s walk on the wild side is only temporary—Arizona is a lifetime away from her real life in New York. But she can’t deny she’s starting to fall for Justin. He’s sexy as hell and sweet as sin. And their sexual experiences with his two friends are nothing short of scorching. That doesn’t change the fact she’s going home at the end of her stay. Unless she can somehow turn this fantasy into reality.
