I Have a Crush…More Like an Infatuation

25 May

Infatuation is the perfect word to describe the tingles that have me all a quiver these days, but I’m not crushing on some guy I know. It’s not an illicit connection to a sexy neighbor or to the hot guy I see in the morning riding his bike. Nope, not at all.

Like a teenage girl crushin’ on the latest heartthrob, I’m all a twitter for a celeb. Maroon 5′s front man, Adam Levine, to be exact.

I know, I know. I’m over 33. Crushes on celebs are for the young, but can you really blame me for this little infatuation? I mean, look at this man… (more…)

I’m helping someone move this weekend, and it brought back memories of my own move alst July.

My blog for that weekend was “Stipper Poles and Sex on the Dining Room Table” .

Since I have to meet the moving truck shortly, I don’t have time to “reminisce”, but here’s the link if you want to see what “Stripper poles” had to do with my move… and why a particular someone is NOT helping with this move :-)

As for today, the one thing I did want to tell everyone is (more…)

It’s Not Procrastination…

19 May

…if it fuels the fires. Sometimes you just can’t write. Day to day things can pile up and the muse doesn’t visit or even leave the slightest crumbs for you to work with. I’m going through a phase of that right now.

I know part of it is post conference burn out and the other is my tendency to be in the midst of several projects at once. This allows my brain to work without getting bored, BUT it also makes it so I get mired in details and unsure which direction to go.

Times like this I take a step back and do a few other things. It may look like procrastination to the untrained eye, but I’m refilling the well.  For anyone else looking for ideas I offer:

Pinterest: I held off as long as I could, but love to peruse some hottie boards for  help with character inspiration.  I have one but Patti O Shea’s one, is muuuuch better.

Movies: I don’t dig most chick flicks or rom coms. I find that I want to strangle most of the female leads but I’m a sucker for LadyHawke (so 80s!) and Love Actually

I’m hoping to be able to concentrate for more than five seconds some time soon. In which case, I’ll be diving into a book from my Keeper Shelf, most likely Karen Robard’s Night Magic.

So what do you do when you need to refuel, but don’t want to completely disconnect?

Some cowboys to kick off the Weekend

18 May

This weekend is the long weekend in Canada and I always spend the May Long Weekend at the Rodeo, I figured I would share the wealth a little and post some cowboy eye candy for you. Enjoy.

GCB Man Candy

16 May

I cannot begin to tell you how disappointed I am that ABC decided to not renew GCB. I thought the show was funny, irreverent and sassy. Sure, it was also a little campy, but I didn’t watch for believability. I watched for the humor!

But most of all, I mourn the lost of Sunday Night Man Candy. So, one last time, let’s gaze upon what we have lost, ladies…

First, we have a hottie pastor. Sure, the collar might throw some women off his scent. But that’s only because they’re not looking hard enough. I give you everyone’s favorite Sunday night wish-he-was-a-sinner… Pastor John Tudor.

Don’t let the name fool you ladies. He might have the name of a porn star, but he’s the best Jesus to hit the stage in the summer church theater… Ripp Cockburn.

And how about everyone’s favorite car salesman and former pro footballer? Zach Peacham

Okay, sure, he might be the brother of Amanda’s “enemy.” But can anyone resist a reformed bad boy? I know I have trouble! Ladies, say goodbye to Luke Lourd.

And lastly, my absolute favorite. He does a mean Lazarus, makes denim look edible and has a smile that melts panties from a mile away. I will miss you so very, very much, Blake Reilly…

I mourn. Do you mourn with me? Because my Sunday nights just got a little less ab-tastic. Boo.

Off to go look at more pictures. Tide me over until I find a new show that delivers the same consistently yummy candy. Any suggestions, ladies?

Now that’s my kind of candy

6 Apr

With it being Easter weekend my kids are getting amped up for the candy so I thought the Easter bunny should grace the blog as well but with some grown up candy, yep you guessed it EYE CANDY. Yum. Since my new book Rode Hard released last Friday it seemed appropriate for the guys to be cowboys.

Blurb

Six weeks surrounded by hot, rugged cowboys doesn’t sound like hard work at all. In fact, writer Kat McCray is going to enjoy this assignment. One look at sexy ranch owner Justin Shaw and she knows exactly how she plans to spend her downtime. In his bed.

Justin works hard and has the body to prove it. And he plays even harder—him and his two best friends. He’s more than happy to help Kat explore her darkest fantasies…especially the ones that involve all four of them.

Kat’s walk on the wild side is only temporary—Arizona is a lifetime away from her real life in New York. But she can’t deny she’s starting to fall for Justin. He’s sexy as hell and sweet as sin. And their sexual experiences with his two friends are nothing short of scorching. That doesn’t change the fact she’s going home at the end of her stay. Unless she can somehow turn this fantasy into reality.

Writing Sex. Good Sex.

28 Mar

From the title of this post you probably know what I’ve been doing for the last couple of days. Yeah…I’ve been entrenched in a couple of love/sex scenes. I know some writers who can’t wait to get to this part in a book. Others may dread the writing of them and I know some who like to leave the “good stuff” till the end :) . Me? I write these scenes when it feels right and the characters are ready. Yes, okay, I am weird when it comes to my characters but this usually means it’s toward the end of a story, when all the scenes are drafted, the emotional arc is strong and the core of the relationship thread has been pulled tight.

To me writing a great sex scene isn’t really writing about sex at all. Not the choreography of it, not exactly how they “do it”, not what tab goes in which slot and when. No, it’s about the emotional journey one or both of the characters go on, what changes from the beginning to the end of the scene, what’s revealed, what level of intimacy is actually achieved. It’s all of that in varying degrees. It could be “quickie/hook-up/just met” sex, it could be “friends with benefits” sex, it could be “can’t keep our hands of each other even when it’s not a good idea” sex and it could be “full-blown loving, emotional, ready to make a committment for real” sex. Regardless, something is happening in the scene besides good humping to further the story along. And if it doesn’t? That scene isn’t really needed. At least in my opinion for great romance to be, well…great.

Each of the pictures in this post tells a story, elicits a particular emotion, I think. Yeah, they’re hot and heavy and getting it on, but they all have the potential to be at their most vulnerable during these moments. Their expressions, their body language, how they hold themselves, how they’re interacting with their partner…all of this tells a story beyond what’s happening physically. Ah…some days it’s great to be a writer!
